The Lodge
Waiokaka Lodge is the main accommodation at Te Matai (several 3-4 berth hunting huts are also spread throughout the land) – currently located at end of the walkway. Enjoy a weekend luxury stay either in small or large groups. Take in the breathtaking view from the deck overlooking the Mohaka River. Feed the fish from there! Sleeping up to 12 with running water, flush toilets and cooking facilities. Experience Waiokaka in the natural Maori whare (house) setting protected by totems or ‘Pou’.
The Forest
Experience the indigenous flora such as Manuka Kanuka, and Miro. Or see the beehives where that yummy Manuka Honey comes from! Walk along tracks in the native forest untouched by time and finish with a long soak at the nearby thermal pools.
Within the natural beauty beside the famous Mohaka River is The Central Plateau Walkway – a cultural highway through history. A pleasant 3 –4 hour bushwalk through untouched native forests viewing rare wildlife, manuka gathering honeybees and cultural highlights.
The River
Fishing the famous Mohaka River is an experience to enjoy just you and your friends – that’s all! Or try white-water rafting down this river, either over several hours or overnight camp-out excursions!
