The two ancestral carvings named Kurapoto and Kawhea have been erected as land symbols for tangata whenua and the world to observe. The carver is Nepata Heke a descendant of Ngᾱ Uri o Kurapoto, Ngᾱti Maniapoto, and Ngᾱti Kahungunu.
